I’ve been doing a bit of playing about with OpenSolaris Belenix (yet another Unix-based OS, but this time based on Sun’s commercial Solaris product). If you’re interested, I got it off the cover DVD of the latest edition of Linux Format (Issue 79).
I’d really love to get stuck in to OpenSolaris and do the old Apache, PHP and MySQL compile to get myself acquainted with the system, but at the moment I can’t seem to get a network connection. At all.
And that is a shame as it means I can’t really run a web server. I’ll keep you posted.
Check out 0.5 version of BeleniX. It is much better compared to the one that shipped with Linux Format,
Will do.
Thanks for the heads-up, Joe. I would very much like to expand my Unix skills to other Unix stuff (when it matures, I would love to run a server off it), and it’s great that Sun (Joe is from Sun according to his blog link for the benefit of other readers) did open up Solaris.
Just waiting for Java now 😛 (just kidding, I realise it can’t happen that quickly).
I’ll give BeleniX 0.5 a download and I’ll have a play around and post if I get the network working this time. Fingers crossed!
