WPGet 0.7 is (finally) released

After a significant development hiatus, I am very pleased to announce the immediate release of WPGet 0.7!

So in case you sort of forgot what it is after all this time, or for any newcomers to WPGet, here’s what it does. WPGet is a script that is designed to allow you to include a short summary of your recent blog posts on your website. Specifically, it works with WordPress and is great for integrating a WordPress blog into a site that isn’t completely powered by the WP platform.

You can see a great example of WPGet in action on my homepage. The sidebar on the right includes a brief summary of what’s on this blog. That is, in essence, what WPGet does (although it is fully customisable for what you want to do).

So enough introduction (you can read more of that sort of thing at the project page), let’s take a look at what’s new for 0.7:

  • Support for all WordPress 2.x – from 2.0 to the new 2.3.
  • Performance and quality improvements including more efficient use of MySQL and streamlined joined queries.
  • Supports including just a single post (for semi-static content).
  • Mature support for WordPress 2.0-2.2 categories (include posts from only certain categories in your page), does not support 2.3.
  • Completely reworked config tool (now the WPGet Installer), much easier to use and supporting all WPGet features!
  • Dual-licensed under the GPLv3 and LGPLv3.
  • Probably more too – but my documenting of the development process hasn’t exactly been top notch!

The quickest way to get up and running is to use the brand new Installer here on my site. Simply enter your details, download a pre-rolled version of the script just for you, then configure your extracts on the next page.

If you don’t want to use that, head to the project page, download the installer for yourself and run it on your own server.

Since it’s been so long since the last release (and my humblest apologies for that), I’m hoping I haven’t forgotten anything vital or made any stupid mistakes. If you do have feedback, feel free to comment here, or contact me some other way. I’d love to hear it all (provided it is constructive)!

If you are feeling particularly generous or genuinely find WPGet useful (especially in a commercial setting), you are more than welcome to donate via PayPal below. Thanks in advance!

So, until next time!
